As a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes, I must say that there are not many things to be thankful for. Justin is ALWAYS on my mind. I cannot think of at time where my mind is free of thoughts of the diabetes. Is Justin safe; who is there to help him; what is his blood sugar; does he have too much 'on board.' I am thankful for Heaven Scent Paws.

Justin experiences frequent, severe lows that he is unaware of. We have been working closely with our endocrinologist to manage this, but we needed something else to help here. I had the fortunate experience of meeting a diabetic alert dog and I knew that this was the answer for our son.

I researched many organizations and decided upon Heaven Scent Paws. The format of the training made sense to us. The 3 week intensive was ideal for our busy world as well. The trainers were available 24/7 for the 3 weeks. That unique availability was appealing to us.

When I applied for Heaven Scent Paws, I received a phone call interview within hours. Michele was warm and receptive. She honestly and intently listened to our story and our situation. Justin is a teen-ager-this is huge challenge in itself! Michele understood this age and was able to provide age appropriate guidance for us. She has a son the same age and she shares similar struggles. Michele made us feel like we were part of her family. She welcomed Justin in with open arms. Justin took some time to warm up-which she also understood and respected. She connected with Justin immediately and she developed a stron working relationship with him. The other trainer, James, related to Justin like a big brother. The rest of the trainers/volunteer staff; alice, heather, joseph, david, kim, randy, becca, carlie, jesse were all capable, kind and considerate. We need this connection for Justin because he is the individual totally responsible for his alert dog.

Thank you Heaven Scent Paws word cannot express how grateful I am.
